Miley Cyrus, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus’s daughter, has made quite a name for herself on Disney’s new hit show “Hannah Montana.” The story revolves around a teenage girl, Miley Stewart, who has a double life as the pop star Hannah Montana. The show (which broke rating records in the entire Disney Channel’s existence) hit the Disney Channel on March 24th in the year 2006, and Miley Cyrus has not looked back since.
Miley Cyrus was born in November of 1992, in Nashville, Tennessee to country singer Billy Ray (”Achy Breaky Heart” guy) and his wife Leticia Cyrus. Her real name is Destiny Hope Cyrus, but gained the nick name of “Miley” because of the grin she continually brings to each day.
When Cyrus was nine years old, she began to show an interest in acting. She guest starred on her dad’s show “Doc” for her first taste on camera. It stuck. Later, she would be found in Tim Burton’s “Big Fish,” made appearances in High School musical 2, as well as music videos, and country music programs.
When Miley Cyrus approached Disney to audition for the Hannah Montana show, she tried to make the “best friend” role, Lisa Truscott. Producers didn’t think she was big enough for the role, but ultimately called her back for another audition after her 12th birthday. She was placed in the role of Hannah Montana, and has shone through as a teenage star ever since.
Miley Cyrus was given four awards for Hannah Montana in 2007. Out of the four, she was given two Teen Choice Awards for “Choice TV Actress: Comedy” as well as “Choice Summer Artist.” This is no surprise, as even her co-stars give her props. 29 year old Jason Earles, who’s Miley’s big brother, Jackson in the show says that “Miley really did come out of nowhere and suddenly become this sensation.”
What does this 15 year old say to all of the fame? USA Today says that Miley enjoys the fans that support her, but she remembers when no one would notice her in the mall: “Everyone would be like, ‘You’re on a show? What?’” She says. “Now it’s insane. Managers and everyone hate me. They’re like, ‘Please get out of the store,’ because it gets so insane. It’s pretty crazy, how fast it all came.”
